9. SALONPAS

Salonpas patches are designed to relieve temporary minor aches and pains. The product works using a transdermal drug delivery system, that when applied to the skin delivers an anti-inflammatory medication directly to the site of pain. Their active ingredients are menthol and menthyl salicylate-which are a topical approach to NSAIDs. Since the product contains NSAIDs, there are drug interactions and limitations caused by the use of the product, and cannot be used by children under the age of 12. Patches only last up to 12 hours.

What our tester says:

Salonpas is a brand that almost everyone on the market that is looking for a pain patch is drawn to immediately. Salonpas is known for three effective pain fighters: menthol, methyl salicylate, and camphor. Salonpas is designed to relieve individuals for up to 8 hours from any minor aches and pains. It can be used for arthritis, simple backache, strains, bruises, or sprains. The patches are easy to apply and easy to remove. The directions for applying the patch are removing the patch from the film and applying to a clean area. It is also important to remove the patch after 8 hours and apply a new patch only 3 to 4 times on the affected area per day. The standard large patch is a 6×4 patch that covers larger areas of skin and targets the pain and inflammation instantaneously. The Salonpas patch offer versatile comfort with rounded corners and flexible fabric, the application is easy and the patches bend with your movements. Once the patch is applied they stay where you need them and they are easy to remove. Salonpas is non-addictive and gentle on the body. Once it has been applied to your pain of inflammation it must travel through and treat areas that are affected.

I’ve heard of Salonpas patches for many years and decided to give them a go for inflammation in my shins. I’ve found that these patches are life altering. I put two on my shins and I was good to go for the whole day and while I worked out at the gym. Lately, I have started using them for any shoulder pain I experience as well. There are a couple of downsides to this patch: they have a medicinal scent and you can’t leave the patches on for more than 8 hours. The pros is that I can stick them virtually anywhere and I can cut them as well. I am able to cut them to a size that best fits the area of pain or inflammation. The patches come in individual pouches which keeps them fresh and effective and they are able to stay on for 8 hours while I am active throughout the day. Overall, I would recommend this patch for more moderate pain and as an alternative to over the counter drugs.
